An old Maryland recipe credited to Mrs. C. S. Gore, Baltimore.

One pint milk
1/2 c. lard
1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
heaping teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1 yeast cake

Heat milk warm enough for butter to melt, add yeast dissolved in warm water and flour to make a thin batter, let rise, then add flour to a consistency of bread dough, let rise again, then roll out and cut for rolls or doughnuts. Let rise and bake in a hot oven. (425-450 for 10-12 minutes probably).
